How to Turn Any Image Into an AI Prompt (and Recreate It)

5 min read · Updated 17 Oct 2026 · By the PromptVerse team

Seen an image you love and want something similar? You can work backwards from the picture to a prompt. Doing it by hand teaches you what makes AI images work, and a tool can speed it up.

Break the image into parts

Look for six things: the subject, the style or medium, the lighting, the camera view or lens, the composition and the mood or colour palette. Write one short phrase for each. This list is the skeleton of your prompt.

Describe, do not name

Describe what you see rather than naming people or brands. "A woman in her thirties with short dark hair, wearing a green raincoat" works across all models and avoids problems with real identities.

Adapt the wording to each model

Midjourney likes compact, descriptive phrases followed by parameters such as the aspect ratio. Flux and DALL·E understand full sentences. Stable Diffusion models often respond well to comma-separated keywords and a negative prompt. Read Midjourney vs Flux vs SDXL vs DALL·E for the differences.

Use your own photo as the subject

To put yourself into a scene, write the prompt for the scene and say that the subject is the person in your attached photo, then use the reference-image or image-editing feature of your tool. Only use photos of yourself or people who agreed.

Save time with the generator

Our Image to Prompt generator does these steps automatically and gives you a version for each model plus a "with my photo" variant. Then share the best result on Explore and earn coins.
